Title: Six-Inch Valley Rating: PG-13 Wordcount: 203 Pairing: Gary/Raoul Round: 1/E Summary: Raoul, drunk, in a ditch, and those he drags down with him. Raoul whimpers. They're sitting in a muddy ditch and he's just finished emptying the contents of his stomach onto the ground nearby. “I don't...Gary, I don't want to do this.”
It's beyond the point where there is any room for argument. It's dark and cold and raining, and Gary just left a wonderful party to chase his friend out here. It's too far gone to reason with him. “I know,” he says, because he can't come up with anything else.
“I don't know how to stop.” Raoul might be crying; Gary can't tell. “I want to.”
“How can we help you?” Gary pleads. “Tell me what to do to help you, because I don't know.” He shifts over, straightens Raoul, clutches him. “We can't keep doing this.”
“I know.” Raoul leans against him, and he's fever-hot and Gary is shivering. “I'm sorry.”
There is nothing to say to this. He used to brush Raoul off, back when he thought his friend just went a little too far sometimes, but now he knows the depths of his drinking, and he's not sure how to accept an apology for an error which will happen again and again. “I know,” he says. It's all that's left.

This is a wonderful fic. There's so much sadness, and love between them. Just so touching and beautiful.

Oh, this is so painful and lovely and wrenching. I adore Gary's sweetness, even in the face of Raoul's darkness. Their love for each other, and the helplessness Raoul feels in the face of his alcoholism, are perfectly conveyed.
