Title: Desk Knight
Rating: PG-13 (innuendo/implications...)
Word Count: 512
Pairing: Gary/Raoul – Team Moustache Curtains
Round/Fight: 1E
Summary: Gary is a desk knight, and Raoul is not. Part of the Superheroes! Series...
The sounds of banging and some mad sort of thumping coming through his door made focusing on the current trade embargo with Tyra nothing short of impossible.
And Gary liked reading about trade embargoes. Especially ones that mentioned pirates.
After what sounded like several horses galloped past his office, (although, did horses normally shout things like “Zoom!” and “fwooooosh!”?) peace and silence was restored.
This was the way the world should be, always. No noise, no constant stream of people jabbering for his attention, no rude interlopers wandering into his office in search of entertainment, which they always seemed to assume he could provide in endless amounts as if he had nothing better to do… No. The world would be a much better place if it were just him, Tyra, and Tyra’s trade embargo.
The door banged open before he could sink back all the way into his chair and Raoul’s muffled cursing again broke the peace that Gary so craved. “Sorry ‘bout that, Gary,” Raoul offered meekly. “But I have to hide; they’re looking for me.”
Gary didn’t quite know where to start with his lecture, but start he did. “Oh, so you decided my office was the best place? The fact that I might be using my office aside, you didn’t happen to think that when they find you, when, not if, they’ll be disturbing me too?”
“Maybe they won’t find me,” Raoul muttered mulishly, throwing himself into the spare armchair facing Gary.
“They always find you, because you always hide here.”
“Well, Buri won’t let me hide in her office anymore.”
Gary ignored the way that Raoul’s lower lip stuck out petulantly. “Buri’s a smart woman.”
No sooner had the words left his mouth than noise started up again, familiar “zooooom” and “fwoooooosh” noises letting him know that the noisemakers were the same perpetrators that had so rudely interrupted him earlier. Gary looked out the window only to see two men, one in the blue uniform of the King’s Own and one in the brown uniform of the Queen’s Riders , running around the practice courts with some bizarre outfits on. He slammed the window shut, grousing, “Is it too much to ask for normalcy around here?”
Raoul peered over Gary’s shoulder out the window. “Oh, that’s Masbolle and Larse. They’re officers in the Riders and the Own; they’ve been a little off for a week or two.”
Gary gaped at the two men in the yard below. “Are those really the people in charge of security around here?”
Raoul shrugged, clearly unruffled by the behavior of one of his sergeants. “Gary, you seem a little…on edge. Maybe its time to get out of your office for a while.”
Blinking in confusion, Gary frowned and turned to move back to the comfort of his desk. “What? No, I’m fine.”
Raoul didn’t move aside for Gary, ignoring the pointed look the other man was giving him. “I think you need to do something new and ride something other than your desk.”
Gary raised his eyebrows. “Are you making a suggestion?”
