Title: In Lightning’s Grip
Rating: PG
Word Count: 237
Pairing: Raoul/Gary
Round/Fight: 1/E
Summary: Raoul and Gary have a good thing going. Sadly, they can’t be together, but they can’t be apart. Sequel to ‘Buried Secrets’ but can be read alone. All characters in this story at least 18 years of age
I do not own the characters.
~x~X~x~
It didn’t take a lot for their flame to burst into a roaring wildfire. A spark one day and a lightning bolt the next. Playful banter would always be on the tip of their tongues but withheld until they were behind closed doors.
Life for the two young knights seemed happy. No one questioned two men disappearing from balls. Gary was the busy type and Raoul was notorious for skipping social events. No one realized that as soon as they slipped out the door, they were meeting in dark stretches of the palace.
Then their flames were doused like a candle thrown into the sea. The truth about Alan –Alanna really- came out.
They knew they could no longer carry on as they had been. Their prince was not an ally in their desires, and never had been. Jon would never protect them if they were caught.
They agreed that they had to stop. They couldn’t be so close; it would raise too many suspicions. So the crevice between them began to spilt and grow.
Raoul was swallowed by his work, barely at the palace for a day or two.
Gary was hidden behind stacks of documents, never leaving the confines of his office.
When rumors began to spread, the distance between them stretched even more.
Raoul fled to the south to the Bazhir to prove he was just a warrior.
Gary went north to the convent to find a woman he could call his wife.
Their distances held their bodies apart, but lightning can reach from the heavens to the Earth.
