Title: Duelling
Rating: R
Word Count: 469
Pairing: Gary/Raoul – Team Moustache Curtains
Round/Fight: 2/C
Summary: Gary and Raoul practice fencing. Warning: sex?
Author’s Note: I am so, so sorry.
It was essential for young knights to maintain their combat skills. Though they had their shields, continual practice was essential lest they be caught by surprise by times of war. Gary and Raoul made good practice buddies: they were well matched in size, weight and skill, and they enjoyed duelling together.
“I don’t know how you plan to beat me with that puny sword! You’ll never get close enough to do any damage!”
“Gary, shut up. My sword is at least as big as yours is. Yes, it may be somewhat lacking in length, but it more than makes up for that with its broader blade. I prefer a cutting sword over one designed to thrust.”
“That’s a mistake. Nothing finishes off an opponent quicker that a good, hard thrust.”
“I disagree! I’m sorry, but there is more to battle than just thrusting your sword. You can’t just rely on one technique. You need a variety of techniques or your opponent will know what to expect, and you’ll lose.”
“I assure you, I have a full arsenal of techniques at my disposal. I’m just saying, I’d prefer a longer sword over a shorter, broader one, any time.”
“And I’m telling you, it’s not the weapon that matters, it’s the skill of the swordsman that’s important.”
“Alright, let’s go then. You’ll see. Thrust! Thrust!”
“No, I’d prefer to – “
“You could have had me then! You’ll never impale a man if you’re scared to thrust!”
“Gary, that’s just not my style – look, I’ll show you what I’d do. Come at me – and then I’ll – “
“Oh, right. I see what you’re doing… I can see your point! Yes, that does work. But you’ll have to do it harder of you want to really get me. Yes, and then I’ll… no, don’t do that, get back over here! And faster. Come one, let’s pick up the pace here – harder! faster!”
“Gary, calm down. Let’s take it a bit slower and get it right… Oh, fine -”
“Hey, where did that come from? Have you been practising without me?”
“I’ve just been trying to improve my swordsmanship.”
“I don’t know if I approve of that. It’s cheating!”
“Why are you getting so competitive about this? It’s supposed to be fun.”
“Look, just stop talking, will you? I need to concentrate.”
Alanna smirked. Passing through the corridor, she had overheard Raoul and Gary’s loud debate. Maybe she’d fight the winner; she’d show them who the best swordsperson was around here. It seemed odd though, that they should practice fencing in Raoul’s rooms. And though she could hear the grunts and panting of the duellers, there was no clash of steel blades. They must be using wood. She entered without knocking and was confronted with a puzzling scene. Why were Gary and Raoul naked?
