Title: Get Out the Map
Rating: G
Word Count: 347
Pairing: Gary/Raoul – Team Moustache Curtains
Round/Fight: 2/C
Summary: Gary and Raoul make plans for their knighthood.
Author’s Note: This fic was prompted by the song of the same name, by the Indigo Girls.
Get out the map, get out the map, and lay your finger anywhere down.

They sat at a table in one of the minor libraries, abandoned maths problems scattered between them. Their eyes sparkled and their faces were full of dreams. Gary went over to the bookshelves and picked out the largest atlas, which was so heavy that Raoul had to come and help him carry it to the table, and so dusty that Gary sneezed and dropped it on his toes. They opened it up and gazed in awe and longing at all the places they would go, one day. “Let’s go to Tyra,” Gary said, “They have an amazing trade system there.”
“And maybe we’ll find the Dominion Jewel!”
“And it’s warm all year round – no more snow!”
“Let’s go to the Copper Isles,” Raoul said, “All that jungle – we could find all kinds of adventures there!”
“I heard they have winged horses there, can you believe it?”
“We could free the slaves!”
“And in Carthak too!”
“What about Galla? All those mountains – there must be thousands of bandits we could catch!”
They came back to this atlas so often that it became the least dusty book in the library. They didn’t bother putting it back on the shelf any more, but gave it a permanent residence on their usual table. They would take turns to close their eyes and prod a blind finger at the maps, deciding that wherever they pointed, they had to go first. They groaned and laughed as they ended up in the middle of the Emerald Ocean or the Great Southern Desert. Gary ostentatiously squeezed his eyes shut and twirled his extended finger in the air before he stabbed at his destination. At Raoul’s laugh, he opened his eyes and groaned when he saw he had landed smack bang on Corus. “Oh, noooo!”
“Looks like you’re not going anywhere.”
“Shut up, there’s no way I’m staying here when I’m finally a knight. You’d better not go anywhere without me!”
“And you’d better come. It wouldn’t be the same without you.”
“No fear. Isn’t the whole point of being a knight to go on adventures?”
