Title: Fears Rating: R Word Count: 102 words Pairing: Neal/Owen Round/Fight: 1/E Summary: Neal and Owen discuss death, and Neal realises what matters. Warning for discussion of death.
“It scares me,” Owen states, matter of fact.
Neal, not quite paying attention, is startled out of his daydream. “What?”
“Death,” Owen replies. “Well, not death, exactly. Dying. Not living. Being forgotten and leaving things undone. Being apart from everyone I know. Doesn’t it scare you?”
Neal looks down at his hands, fingering the gold band he wore on his left hand. “It terrifies me.” He admits, pausing while he finds the right words. “Leaving my family – my parents, my wife, and my daughter – it scares me more than anything.”
“Because they need you?” Owen asks.
Neal frowns. “Because I need them.”

This is lovely. That last line is… well, I’m trying to think of the right word but I can’t at present. But yes, the last line. Seriously.
