"Marriage is... nice."
Owen rolled over on his side, his clear grey eyes showing his scepticism. "Marriage is nice?" he repeated. “You wrote odes to the way she breathes, and all you have for me by way of advice is that being forever united with the one you love is nice.”
Neal fidgeted in his seat. “I’m in somewhat of a rut right now,” he confessed, lowering his voice. “I call it my Springtime Itch. It lasted only a week last year, but I cannot tell you the sorts of things I imagined doing with Kel. I can’t help but feel that it’s going to last longer this year.”
There was a long silence as Owen digested this, and then he asked, “What does Yuki think of this?”
“I don’t tell her!” Neal exclaimed. “I value my life - and hers.” His cheeks flushed pink. “I spend half my time dreaming about Yuki disappearing into a ravine in the spring. Once, she was crushed by a ton of falling bricks. I’ve been trying to avoid her.”
“So, Kel was your - your Itch last year,” Owen said slowly. “Who is it this year?”
Neal hesitated. “Well, Owen, about that...”
