Summary: Cause you left me with no love to my name. Gary doesn’t know Raoul’s been back for days until Alanna tells him. Breakeven part 24, set post-Lioness Rampant.
“We should go to the Dove tonight and catch up, you, me, and Raoul,” Alanna mentions to Gary on their way to Jon’s study.
“Raoul’s out on patrol with the Own,” Gary says, blowing off her statement.
Alanna raised her eyebrows. “He’s been back for days, where have you been?”
Gary fiddles with his armful of paper. “I’ve been doing the same thing as always—these treaties with Maren and Tyra won’t wait for just anyone.”
Perhaps she’ll hear the edge of angry sarcasm in his voice.
“Well, if you don’t want to go…” Alanna pushes the door in front of them open, and moves to greet Myles.
Gary hides his face as he settles his burden on the table. He doesn’t want to go spend hours on end with someone who pretends he doesn’t exist, someone who only has eyes for his beer.
He doesn’t.
But there’s still an aching somewhere in his chest, roundabout where he guesses his heart is.
