Title: Little Sense
Rating: PG
Word Count: 213
Pairing: Gary/Raoul – Team Moustache Curtains
Round/Fight: 2/C
Summary: Now I’m trying to make sense of what little remains. Alanna returns to find things are not all as she left them, and a friendship she thought invincible has been shattered. Breakeven part 23, set post-Lioness Rampant.
Alanna’s return to the Capital is full of laughter between herself and George, and his smile lights up her world.
Corus is the same as she’s always remembered it, but once she reaches the Palace, its as if all the sound has cut out of life.
Jon looks older, she realizes, and when he fills her in on what’s been happening in her absence, she can hardly believe it.
As she makes her way around the Palace, though, she sees signs of everything he’s been telling her, even though she can’t quite believe that her oldest friends are at odds with one another.
Gary’s room is locked, and only when she slams on it and demands to be let in does he allow her in, and she can barely keep from gasping at the sight of her upbeat friend, gaunt and exhausted at his desk.
She finds Raoul in the Own barracks, freshly back from patrol, and apparently fresh from a new bottle of wine, because the air around him smells slightly of liquor, and she hurries through his greeting.
She tells herself it's not slightly slurred.
The coldness, when she mentions Gary, is definitely not imagined, and Raoul throws back another glass of wine as if to swallow down his anger too.
