Title: Tears Rating: PG-13 Word Count: 207 Pairing: Crane/Rosethorn Round/Fight: 1/F Summary: Rosethorn doesn't cry Warning: Torture is mentioned briefly, as well as descriptions of war.
Rosethorn doesn’t cry when Yanjing invades the temple. She doesn’t cry when she sees the smoke rising over fields of grain; she doesn’t cry when they throw her in a cell.
She doesn’t cry when she heals the whip marks on Briar’s back; Rosethorn doesn’t cry when Evvy falls asleep holding her hand, bruises marking her face. She doesn’t cry when they torture her.
Rosethorn doesn’t cry when they pour boiling water on her hands; she doesn’t cry when she finds her friends with arrows stuck in them. Rosethorn doesn’t cry when she washes shockingly scarlet blood off of stones.
She doesn’t cry when she goes home.
She doesn’t cry when Crane holds her in his arms; she doesn’t cry when she tells him her story. She doesn’t cry when he strokes her hair; Rosethorn doesn’t cry when he sobs at her tale. She doesn’t cry when he pulls the robes off her head, thinking he will see the beautiful young gardener, but instead finding scars and sloppily healed broken bones.
Rosethorn doesn’t cry when she has nightmares and wakes up in Crane’s arms.
It’s only when Crane looks at her with a look that is equal parts pity and sorrow and love, that she finally cries.

Mmph. Gorgeous. The repetition gives such a sense of her desperately holding together, and it makes the ending lovely and poignant.

Thank you. I think Rosethorn is the type of person who would just try to hold it together for anyone around her.
