Title: Unexpected (1)
Rating: PG-13
Wordcount: 293
Pairing: Team Circlecest
Round: 2/C
Summary: Sandry, Tris and Briar react to Daja's surprising news.
Warning: Alluded-to sex
At Daja’s announcement, Sandry’s eyes went wide with surprise, and the fabric of her skirts began to tremble under her hands. “A baby?” she squeaked.
“But you and Briar never-” Tris began.
“I know,” Daja interupted, curtly. “That’s why I didn’t think about how old my pregnancy charm is. Not until — after.”
“Hmf,” Tris sniffed. “At least we have enough space for a nursery.” She nodded at Sandry. “At least it wasn’t you — now that would be awkward. Can you imagine what the duke would say?”
Instead of answering Tris, Sandry looked at Daja, then Briar. “You didn’t say anything. Neither of you said anything.”
“Sure we did.” Briar uncrossed his arms. “It was the night you and Tris didn’t make it back from the Citadel. When you got home, you asked if we missed you. Remember? I said we did, but we managed to keep ourselves entertained pretty well.” He grinned at Daja. “It was entertaining, wasn’t it?”
“Pretty well,” she agreed, “though I did miss the ladies.” Then their eyes locked, silently acknowledging the seriousness of the situation. But Briar slowly began to grin, and Daja nodded. They would be fine.
Next she looked at Tris. “Are you all right with this?”
She shrugged. “I’d rather the two of you be together than find out one of the maids is hoping for a marriage proposal.”
“That was once,” Briar argued, “and I swear I gave her no reason to expect anything like that.”
“Sure you didn’t.” Daja thumped him lightly on the back of the head. “And you can’t hit me back now.”
“We’re having a baby,” Sandry repeated. “Daja, you’re having a baby.”
