Title: Snow for Leaves Rating: PG-13 Wordcount: 174 Pairing: Crane/Rosethorn Round: 1/F Summary: After Gyongxe, Rosethorn is having some trouble coping.
It's so dark, and so cold, and everyone is asleep but her and the torturers and the marauders and the rapists and the victims. The plants are mostly dead, and she's so tired but she can't rest, and it's a horrible word, and how can she be safe in her little cottage with her students and her songbird when the world is so wrong and people so hurt? She can't stand this winter anymore. It's too dark, too cold, too dead. They've had students before who wanted to die, and she knows she's made them believe that life is worth it, but she cannot remember how.
There's a soft knock. It's Lark. “We've had a delivery for you.” She bustles inside, sets down a small crate, and leaves without expecting response. She's patient. She'll wait.
Eventually, Rosethorn works up the energy to open the box. There's an Air Temple stamp on it. The crate is full of greenhouse plants. They are unseasonable, clean, artificial, from a world sealed away from reality.
They are enough.

That is an astonishing first line.
The whole piece is vivid and heartbreaking, and I was nervous, reading, waiting to see where Crane came in, and when he did it was perfect.
(The 'plants' are dead, though. Rather than plans. )

So beautiful. I hadn't thought about how winter might affect Rosethorn, and the small touch of Crane's out-of-season plants finally being a good thing is gorgeous and perfect.

This peace is beautiful. Every single sentence is wonderfully crafted, and Rosethorn's emotions, and Crane's intervention, are perfect.

Perfect. You get across so much emotion in your descriptions that every bit of it is poignant. Great job.
