Title: I Know My Call Despite My Faults Rating: PG-13 Word Count: 214 Pairing: Crane/Rosethorn Round/Fight: 1/F Summary: How Crane became a dedicate. (a note-- all of my titles of my drabbles through Friday are from Mumford and Sons' album Sigh No More)
The wind caresses her, blows her skirt tight against her legs. It's almost as good as touching her, now that he can't anymore, now that she's ending that.
But two can play this game, so he sits on the ground next to her and plays with blades of grass, twisting them in his fingers. Finally, she deigns to look over at him. “So? When will you be leaving?”
He's about to tell her. She should know the date, even if she's written him off as yet another pompous noble with no respect for the Circle. The wind blows and blows against him, and it smells so sweet and feels so cool on his skin, and he can't get the words out. It pushes him and then, suddenly, changes directions, almost knocking Niva over. He grabs her hand as she tries to steady herself. She tries to pull it angrily away, but he tightens his grip. He needs her to steady him now, because it is all so impossible, but he knows what he must do. Plans have changes.
“Actually,” he chokes out, “I think I'm going to take my vows.”
For a moment, there is nothing, and then she squeezes his hands and he swears the grass gets a little greener.

“Actually,” he chokes out, “I think I'm going to take my vows.” Oh god. This is now my head canon.
I love the way he watches and wants her, and the game, and that final moment of change, of almost-pleasure and...guh...no more words!

Oh, love love love! I adore how sure she is he won't take his vows, and him managing to surprise her.

This is such a sweet moment. I love how the wind reflects (or foreshadows in some cases) Crane's emotions, and I adore the title. It's perfect.
