Title: Hurt Rating: R Word Count: 155 Pairing: Crane/Rosethorn Round/Fight: 1/F Summary: Rosethorn doesn't know if Crane loves her or not, and it doesn't matter. Warning: This story mentions violent domestic and physical abuse. I am in NO WAY condoning the use of abuse (either emotional or physical) on a partner.
He loves me. Crane caresses her face, whispering sweet words in her ear, hot breath tickling her throat.
He loves me not. A vase explodes on the wall behind her head; she doesn’t have to put a hand on her head to feel the wet, sticky blood and know that she’s bleeding. Again.
He loves me. Strong arms wrap around her middle, picking her up and twirling her around, peppering her face with kisses.
He loves me not. Someone is pulling her hair, pushing her against a wall, she’s screaming, and no one can hear her.
“Rosethorn!” Crane screams, sounding angry. Rosethorn jumps to her feet and smoothes out her robe, hiding the scratches on her arm and bruises on her neck.
“Rosethorn!” the voice screams again, angrier, and Rosethorn begins running, tossing the flower that still held several petals on the ground, trampling on it as she runs.
It’s not like it matters, anyway.

Oh, this is so painful. The combination of the simple, childlike "he loves me, he loves me not" and the abuse is wrenching and wonderful in that awful heartbreaking way.

Thanks! I knew someone who was abused once, and she always had a sort of frailty and disbelief about her, so I tried to use that.

This is really good, in a painfully poignant sort of way.

*shudders* That is...well done, but very painful. I'm shocked and impressed.

This one... kind of hurts to read. It's powerful and amazing, and so very well done. But the Crane-fan inside of me is curling up in a ball, angry and betrayed that he'd behave this way (even in fanfiction) - which means you've done it exceptionally well.
The use of the flower.... gah, you're brilliant.
