Title: Tricks in the telling Rating: PG Word Count: 179 Pairing: Crane/Rosethorn Round/Fight: 1F Summary: Crane attempts to discuss his new apprentice.
Rosethorn poured the tea, just to feel the lovely, smooth weight of the pot in her hands. Not the Yanjing blue Crane had always guarded with his life—and, she half suspected, slept with in case of fire—but a dusky rose porcelain that made her think of Lark’s stories of Chammur.
“So,” he said. “That was Osprey.”
“She was absolutely terrified of me,” she said. “What have you been telling her?”
Crane rolled his eyes. “If you think, Rosethorn, that I spend any time I have with the only apprentice I might hope to consider in years talking about you, then you are—”
“—Still amused,” she said. “Really, now.”
“Oh, only that you’re an unpredictable, violent reprobate. All too confident in your own opinions and likely to seduce anyone who attempts to stand against the force of your personality.”
“She is a fine woman.”
“Rosethorn!”
“Well, if you paint me so prettily, what do you expect?”
Crane sniffed, before carefully swallowing his tea. “Besides,” Rosethorn smirked. “As I recall, it was you who left me flowers.”
