Title: Reunion Rating: PG-13 Wordcount: 217 Pairing: Kel/Jon Round: 3/A Summary: Ten years later, Kel and Jon discuss their daughter.
-
“Eyal wants to be a knight,” Kel says. Ten years later, she is only months past thirty and as lovely as ever. Jon is greyer around the edges, as he well knows.
“That doesn’t surprise me,” he replies, putting aside his paperwork. “She is your daughter.”
“And yours,” Kel reminds him, gently. He takes her hand.
“That’s where some of her fighting spirit comes from, undoubtedly.” Jon is trying to resist the urge to touch her further, but it would be inappropriate. “That’s why you’re here?”
“Yes,” she says. “If you don’t have any objections-- I mean, I thought you could have a say. Adalia will make the final decision, of course, for all intents and purposes she is Eyal’s mother, but she asked if I was comfortable with it.”
“And you came to me.” Kel nods.
“I wouldn’t deny her anything,” Jon says, and the pain on his face is apparent a decade on. The sorrow Kel feels at having to give up their daughter will last her a lifetime, she knows that for sure.
“And how is Domitan?” Jonathan presses on. “Recuperating well?”
“As best he can,” Kel responds to the inquiry about her husband. “He’ll be back in the field by July, gods willing.”
She isn’t sure why Jon had to bring him up.

Oh, I love that Eyal wants to become a knight, like both her parents, and you've portrayed Jon and Kel's awkwardness with each other so prettily.
Also, the little details you have are excellent, like how Kel is willing to defer to Adalia's judgement on the matter of Eyal training for her shield.
