“Tris, please. It’s just a group gathering. One of my court friends takes me, one of his friends takes you…” Sandry sighed. “Just one night!”
“No! A date is a date, whatever frilly terms you use, and I don’t do dates. Especially not with powdered peers of nobility.” Tris stuck up her nose. “Go ask someone else.”
“Like Daja?” Sandry whined. “She’d rather date a lady of the court—and already is! I doubt Briar would be any more interested—or my date’s friend, for that matter.” Her eyes widened as her lower lip plumped. “It’s only just for the evening. He will come bearing a gift…an expensive gift. I could drop a hint that you like books on weather magic; your favourite author has a new one now, does she not?”
Tris crossed her arms. “You’re just lining a coffin in satin here…”
Sandry grinned. “So you’ll come?”
“Only because it’s you. Just this once.”
