Type: Family/Friendship
Summary: Jory has always protected Nia.

--
Jory had always been the more outspoken one, her sister, Nia, had been the quiet one. When they were children Jory had done Nia’s speaking for her. When their parent’s friends came to visit they would often say things such as oh my, you two are getting so big! How old are you now? Most of the time Nia hadn’t been able to find her words, so Jory would speak for the both of them. When they were playing Jory was always the one to battle the pirates and fight the evil mages, while Nia was always the damsel in distress. Growing up Nia had needed protecting, and Jory had done her best.
But as they got older Jory started to resent her sister. Nia was the sweet, soft spoken one, while Jory was overlooked as the loud more rambunctious one. When it had been discovered that they had magic Jory’s first thought had been one of vicious pleasure at finally having something that Nia wanted. But the moment passed, and it wasn’t long before Nia was happy with what she had and no longer wanted Jory’s gift. Slowly Jory’s protective attitude started to change to resemble jealousy, until the time came that Jory decided it was time for her to stop putting Nia ahead of herself.
That was the day that Nia had asked Jory to accompany her to visit Ben’s mother, but Jory had begged off saying she had too much work to do. Let her deal with it by herself for once, she had thought. That was the day the fire had started. The fire that killed her sister. Daja had been unable to get Nia out of the house in time, and she had died. Daja didn‘t know Nia the way Jory did, nobody knew Nia the way she did. How was Daja to know that Nia needed protecting? That had always been Jory’s job, and she had failed.
