Title: Katisawesome (cookies if you guess who picked it) Rating: G Prompt: #2, Hauntings Summary: The squires grow up in the shadow of Alan's reputation.
It wasn't that he particularly cared that Gary preferred Alan, Sacherell explained. He just wished his knight-master would make it less obvious. He'd rather have Raoul anyway. None of this being stuck behind desks. Douglass suggested a switch casually, leaning back on the Queen's favourite flowers, the last of the September sun's rays catching his face. He'd always wanted to see Duke Gareth's famous brocade robe, after all. (It didn't help either of them escape the Alan comparison, though. Nor did it prevent the success of their Ordeals being swallowed by the events of hers)

The title is most definitely awesome... but I honestly never thought about how Alanna's year-mates would have had their ordeals completely overshadowed by her tiff with Roger.

*preens*
Guess I'd better admit that Lisafer gave me the idea - she reminds me that we don't even know if Sacherell passed his Ordeal (though quasi-canon has since supplied the fact that he's both knighted and married).

I like the idea that the squires in Alanna's year were overshadowed by her. (And the famous brocade robe! ;D)

Oh, Rosie, you went and did it again. You made me fall in love with Sacherell, Douglass, and their whole situation. Then you made me realize how little fun it can be to be in the shadows. I loved the last line, about their success being swallowed by the events of Alanna's Ordeal... Awesome!

I love the reasons that they come up with for making the switch! Brocade robe! Obvious knight-masters!
Nice writing, too.
