Hello!
So, one of my livejournal communities puts up a thread every Friday for all the people in the community to just chat in. Usually there's some sort of prompt--I'm sure I'll come up with something to plop down at the bottom. :] I know it isn't Friday, but I'm in desperate need of connection with people and would really love to get to know the people who come 'round here!
How are you all doing? What have you been up to?
My prompt: Procrastination.
What are you not doing right now that you should/could/"would if..." be doing? Not just bad things, either--I will procrastinate on things I WANT to do as well, for some reason I can't comprehend (like starting a long fanfic I have to get done for a deadline in June). What are you doing instead of what you should be doing?
But feel free to COMPLETELY disregard the prompt! To be honest, in the LJ community talks I mentioned, I always ignore the prompt and just reply with how I am at present and strike up conversation. I'm sure it will be different here where the system doesn't separately thread conversations, but surely it can be fun anyway.
Smiles. So shoot! Throw out some conversation, connect connect connect!

Sweet! I love general chat!
Currently I am in the library at my university, waiting for my appointment with my advisor in thirty minutes because my last class was cancelled.
I suppose I should be taking advantage of all these fine university resources and researching for my paper due in a couple of weeks, or maybe writing a short story based on a song title, but instead I am here at Goldenlake!
What fanfic? For the TP fandom? What's it for, and what will it be about?

I have a pile of photographs from an ice skating show I went to at the weekend I ought to be sorting and putting into the albums that are right there, but instead I am watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and mooching about on the internet/twitter... I also have eleventybillion* fanfics I could be writing, but my muse procrastinates even more than I do and that says a LOT!
General chat threads = Win (one of the comms I'm on has a Sunday chat that usually gets quite out of hand!)

Gehhhh I stink! I haven't touched my report yet. And I try to go to bed for 1 a.m. Which means I will have to write this tonight and tomorrow, and start my Seedbank Report tomorrow to have it hopefully finished for Sunday. But in the end I guess I DO have time. So I can still breathe. Smiles. Nawr, not a TP fanfic. I joined herminebang or something on livejournal to write a novel-length Hermione-centric HP fic. Only mine will be from McGonagall's point of view involving the time-turner, because I am obviously on fictiondrugs. I should write more TP fics. I got the request to write a Rosethorn-and-Lark-from-the-beginning which I could probably pull off if I put my head to it. I don't think I've ever written a Tortall fanfic in my life. I haven't read a Tortall book since I was 16 and ended up putting it down (the Trickster Queen series) and before that not since I was 14. But I really should read through them again now, I would understand so much more of the humour. I adore general chat threads. I'm glad tomorrow is Friday and I get another one! But for now I have to ACTUALLY start writing this stupid report. Thank gods I have all the research done already.

I have a Spanish final in exactly twelve hours and I need to be studying for it! But that also means in about 13 hours I will be done with school for five months so... fair trade off. One more hour of studying tonight, a few more in the morning, and I'll be set! Watching South Park seems to be a little bit more engaging at the moment though.

Good luck Lindsay!! I should be working on my Administrative Law and Trusts Law assignments due in the next week, or studying for my Civil Procedure Law exam.... but I'm watching THE HILLS. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!

It's okay, my 12:00-3:00 am studying has consisted of: -Getting study sheet from a friend -Have friend join me in my room -Watch Eminem music videos together -Watch SNL videos together -Whine about our final -Talk about people we know -Talk about how we need sleep -Eat all of my food -Check Facebook -Post Facebook updates about how I should be studying -Make some flashcards -Go through my music library -Put on our favorite CDs and sing really, really loudly to them<-- At 2:30 am the night before a final everyone has. I'm surprised no one yelled at our Panic! at the Disco renditions. Andddd that was how I studied. Getting up early for round 2!

I need to read four more chapters in Lies My Teacher Told Me and then write a summary on it, what was affecting the author when he wrote it, the author's history, and find five different writing types. For Monday.

Good luck with all the work! Gods, it'd be nice to be done with school for 5 months. I've still got summer term with exams. Frikfrak. D:
That sounds a lot like my study time! Only we watch Harry Potter Puppet Pals and other silly Youtube videos then sing Disney music far too loud.
Why must there be work to be done? Why why why? =[

Oh that's also a regular occurrence... along with Backstreet Boys and *Nsync thrown in there! 1 hour, 45 minutes to go and this is how I'm spending my time... I'm horrible!

Backstreet Boys were one of my music of choice when I was trying to study at university. Backstreet's Back album played to death up to the wee hours of the morning! All I can say is thank all the Gods I didn't have internet in my uni room! Procrastinating from work was easy enough without the distraction of the interwebs!

I tend to hit up the Spice Girls instead. Especially when I've had a good 15 minutes (gasp) of studying and need a little dance number. (I'm kidding, haha, when I ACTUALLY get into revision I can be at it for hours.)
I don't know how I make it through work when I've got the Internet around.

I've actually unplugged my ethernet cord when I need to get work done-- then I have no excuse to be distracted!
I think I did well on my final, so right now I'm procrastinating on... packing... My room is in a shambles right now!

I've actually unplugged my ethernet cord when I need to get work done-- then I have no excuse to be distracted! That sooooo doesn't work with me cos I KNOW I can just plug it straight back in again!! Fortunately the only thing /I/ have to worry about is housework and going to work Oh and walking my adorable little puppy!

Oh, but my ethernet cord is a royal PIA and I would have to go under my bed to retrieve it again. Sadly, that doesn't always help... since I'll end up loading the Sims 2 or Spore or something and will continue to distract myself even without the internet.

Procrastination is my life. Unfortunately...
I SHOULD be: researching for about 5 major assignment, all due in about 2 weeks. Thank the lord for holidays. Also: practising piano for my exam (eek!!), cleaning my room, finish the gazillion (unfinished) fanfics and just generally getting off my lazy behind.
And, to put the icing on cake, I have yearlies in about a month.
GAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Haha, it would be bad for me to unplug the Internet because I generally need it when I'm working to check up on things and look for definitions, to check my work and the like. Plus I have a bit of a panic attack if I seclude myself--I need to feel that I have community to go to when I need a breather. It comforts me to have conversations going on as I work, or at least LJ-comment conversations that I can pause answering with.
Good luck with the packing! I have to pack up tomorrow afternoon to go BACK to uni!
Egh on procrastination. I've got 800 words done on my report now, which is good--some kids even stopped at 800 despite that the max is 1500. So I feel better about it. The other report I have to do still worries me but I'm sure I'll be fine despite having to make graphs in Excel. (Shoot me now.)
It's such a nice day outside! Sunny and pleasant! :]

It's such a nice day outside! Sunny and pleasant! :] Oh no I have my curtains closed, and I'm trying to pretend it's utterly miserable to persuade myself to work. (obviously that's not a fail-safe strategy, since I'm on here )

Used to be the only way to get me to write fic was to lock myself in my room with the laptop to cut out ALL distractions. Now with the wonders of wireless interwebs I'm never going to get anything done!

(obviously that's not a fail-safe strategy, since I'm on here ) Laughter, I wish that would work for me! Hopefully I'll be able to work despite the good weather. I think I may work better when it's nice out. Although I work best at night, when it's just dark and I can't notice ANY weather unless it's pitterpattering against the window! Chuckles. Yes, it seems we face problems no matter what we do! I'm beginning to think if one is a procrastinator, procrastination would occur even in a room completely void of anything but the work! Procrastinators just seem wont to continue! Ah well.

Yes. Sims 2. Evil!!! Even more evil is my excitement over Sims 3!! I so want to get excited over Sims 3 since the body shop options look awesome and the gameplay is totally different. I'm still worried about what kind of DRM they'll put on it, though. The software keeps getting less effective and more invasive. Installation limits? Seriously?

I have a list of things I need to accomplish. Are any of these getting done? I think just by noting my presence on this messageboard that it is a resounding no.
Anyways, the internet is awful, just for this reason. I need a fail-safe way to get myself to stop going online whenever I need to write a paper or study. ><

I have a guest account on my computer that I switch to because it does not have any games on it. Plus, I do not have anything in the internet's favorites on it (actually, I cannot even find the favorites bar...) so I tend to be pretty productive when using it.

I don't tend to play games, but I do struggle thanks to the net (and certain people who IM me to tell me my favourite character is apparently on fire ). That might help me get my essay done! (clearly not signing into chat mediums, even as 'appear offline', might also help)

I wish I had people IMing me telling me my favourite character was on fire. That sort of fire drill is much more pleasant than the sort I get in halls, at 3 am!
The guest account idea sounds fantastic. Hmm. I got my report done! So tomorrow I start on a new one. Lovely, lovely. Also, the dreaded PACKING so I can go back to uni late tomorrow night.
I wish I had more people to IM with. I'm always wishing people will message me. I'm probably too chatty for my own good.
