Title: The Kraken Rating: G Prompt: Haunting Summary: What haunts a man who fears little in the world?
Soldiers had spoken of it for years.
Sometimes it was the terror of stormwings picking over the dead. For some it was the sight of nearly-dead mean hanging from conquered city walls. The fear of death.
For Wyldon, it would always be the raking of claws over his body as he heard the very real screams of very royal children. When he worried most, his fingers would run over the long scar beginning at his temple, and he would hear those terrified shrieks – and wonder if his own daughters had ever cried in terror as he defended someone else’s home.

That's very scary. *shivers* I love the last bit, where Wyldon's thinking about his daughters.

I love how formal you sound, Rosie. But thank you! And thank you, May - I'm glad to see it was effective!

I love how formal you sound, Rosie. But thank you! I'm shattered. I get awfully formal when I'm tired - but you're right! You wouldn't guess I'd been pestering you over e-mails for five years.

You should sleep instead of reading fanfiction, silly girl!

I liked this snapshot of the fears that haunt Wyldon. That line about his own daughters, and the tension between his duty to the crown and his duty to them--just right!

Thank you, Kate! I'm glad it all fell the right way. Wordy, there's no need for secret Wyldon-love! Be vocal!

This is why we love him, yes? He's such a good man.
