“Alanna, I ...” Kel’s protest trailed of as the Lioness’ hand dipped into Kel’s breeches. Struggling to maintain some semblance of sanity, Kel swallowed hard and tried again. “We shouldn’t. This is .. People would ...” She gazed into Alanna’s twinkling purple eyes and realised she was fighting a losing battle. How could she say no to such a beautiful woman? Someone she greatly admired.
“People would what Kel?” Alanna moved her hand back up. “Disaprove?” She began to remove younger woman’s shirt. “If I was particularly concerned about people’s disapproval, I would never have become a knight.” Alanna sounded confident, but trembling fingers betrayed her as they fumbled with the buttons on Kel’s shirt.
“This isn’t the same,” Kel placed her hands on Alanna’s, holding them still.
“I adore you. I think you are beautiful and strong. I want to be with you. Why does it have to be more complicated than that?” Alanna raised Kel’s hands and kissed them. When Kel looked away, and shuddered, Alanna’s heart sank into her stomach. Pushing herself back a step, she tried to control the tremble in her voice. “But if you don’t feel the same, I understand. I don’t want to pressure you into doing anything you don’t feel comfortable doing.” She couldn’t stop her hands from shaking, so she clenched them behind her back.
“Oh Alanna,” Kel’s heart broke at the vulnerable look in the formidable woman’s face. “Of course I feel the same.” Taking one big step, she closed the distance between them and took Alanna’s face in her hands. “I think about you all the time. Perhaps you’ve bewitched me with your magic eyes.” Kel smiled and kissed the corner of the older woman’s mouth as it quirked up in amusement. “I want to be with you.”
“Do you really mean that?” Alanna stared into her eyes – some called them a dreamer’s eyes – but Alanna saw the calm, steady strength behind them.
“Yes I do. I don’t say things I don’t mean. It’s just that I’m scared. What if people find out, what will they say?”
“Then we’ll be scared together. To the Graveyard Hag with what people will say. All I care is that you and I are happy.” Alanna reached for Kel once again, to finish removing the half unbuttoned shirt
“But what about your husband?” Kel protested, even as she helped Alanna undo the buttons.
“Let me worry about George.” Alanna silenced Kel with a heated kiss. After that, clothes were flung around the room in wild abandonment. The two eager women tumbled into bed and quickly lost themselves in one another.
