“If only—no, time works against us. It is the death of us,” Kel repeated, her voice wavering.
Sabine shook her head, her hands coming up to secure the straps on Kel’s armour. “I will fight with you; it is mayhap in the gods’ will that I do this last thing. But I will not return.”
“You’re really going back,” Kel concluded flatly, wondering when this prospect that had once filled them with hope, had turned into fear.
“I need to. I want to live my life now that I know what the future holds.”
Kel gripped onto Sabine’s shoulders, holding on, not letting go. “But I—”
“Hush, Kel. This is only one lifetime. Make it worthwhile, and you will be rewarded.” Sabine bestowed her with one last smile and a kiss—a promise of new beginnings. “For in death, Kel, time ceases to exist. And what greater victor is there over death, than love?”

It's so sweet to know they'll be together forever, but there's so long to wait before that happens. You wrote this so beautifully, and captured all the emotions really well.
