Title: Chase Rating: G Length: 213 Competitor: Joren Round/Fight: 1/E Summary: Kel should have saved herself the trouble.
The shrieking got louder, and Kel knew, by the broken and suffocating feel of the air, that the spidren was priming its attack and hot on their heels. It was instinct rather than conscious thought that propelled Kel forward and off the steep cliff end -- sliding, tumbling, grasping -- and then she was falling and drowning and dropping straight onto harsh, sharp moss in a tangle of armour straps and satin skirts.
"Thank the gods!" the girl sprawled above her chest cried, relieved and terrified. Kel knew the other girl was most likely scratched and bleeding. "Is it gone?"
On cue, the face of a blond haired boy peeped over the edge of the top of the small cliff, a smirk on his face. Kel groaned, knowing he'd be gloating that the beast was killed by his sword and not hers. "It is now, my lady." Slowly forcing them into a weak standing position, she removed her helmet and wondered what the girl was doing away from the camp. "Are you hurt?"
"No, no! Thanks to you, Sir...?" The gratitude in the ice blue eyes swiftly turned to distaste. "Keladry."
Kel grimaced, and cursed herself for not recognising the damsel she'd just saved. It might have saved her the trouble. "Lady Joren."

Oh, I just LOVE this! It's so intriguing and original, and I love that the feelings between them are no different than in the books.

^ I'm agreeing with Mandi on this one. I like that you didn't use the gender-bending as a reason for him not to be contemptuous.
