Title: A Maid’s Advice
Rating: G
Length: 268
Competitor: Lalasa
Round/Fight: 1/F
Summary: After being told that Cleon likes her, Lalasa helps Kel understand teenage romance.
Kel called out goodnight to her friends before whispering the spell that would unlock her door. Upon entering, she saw that Lalasa was still sitting in the window seat, but this time she was embroidering by the warm light of an oil lamp.
“I’ve finished up with your hose,” she said after greeting Kel, and nodded to a basket full of hosery. “You’re terribly hard on them for someone who doesn’t have to dress formally that often.”
“I’m hard on everything,” Kel said with a sigh, dropping her books on her desk.
“Including yourself.”
Kel looked at Lalasa, surprised to see a small smile tug at her lips.
“What do you mean?” she asked, frowning.
Lalasa set her embroidery down and stood, taking Kel’s hands in her own. “When Tian and I teased you about your conquest, did you assume that you weren’t worthy of his affection?”
Kel shrugged. “Cleon is always joking – calling me silly names and treating me like a girl. He doesn’t mean anything by it.”
“And if he did?”
Kel snorted. “He would say something.”
“And have you said anything to Page Nealan?”
She shook her head, mortified. They’d been over this before; Kel was certain it was easier to not say anything, and let their friendship continue without an hitches.
“Maybe he’s frightened, then, like you are. If I liked someone, I’d try my hardest to admit it.” Lalasa leaned forward, taking Kel’s chin in her hand. “And I must remind you that actions speak louder than words,” she added, before kissing Kel lightly on the mouth.
Kel gaped - but got the point.
