Sun-Stroke
Rating: PG
Length: 271
Competitor: Lalasa
Round: 1/F
Summary: Cross-purposes and unnatural weather.
=====================
Lalasa has skin like caramel; soft, luminously gold-brown, and when she sits in the window seat, darning and hemming and working wonders with fabric, the white light gleaming on her in bars, Kel feels the urge to trace those beams with her mouth, lift up the fragrance of honeysuckle that permeates her friend and run the sweetness of it over her tongue.
She knows such urges are impossible to act upon – Lalasa is her servant, Lalasa has been hurt, Lalasa is a girl – but it’s still there, a sudden rush of heat and gladness at the sight of her.
Especially shining in the sunlight.
‘Something wrong mistress?’ and she realises she has looked too long; let it get into her face, because those enormous dark eyes are tuned into her, and she is drowning in them and Lalasa is setting aside her work and coming up to rest her cool hand against her forehead and her heart is hammering, and there is the smell of honeysuckle enveloping her, and it is on the tip of her tongue, the words I think I want to kiss you, but What your body wants isn’t always what’s best for it, says Lalasa in her head, so Kel, confused and conflicted, resigns herself to the inexplicable ache, steps away neatly.
‘I think I got too hot in training today.’
Lalasa nods her sympathy. ‘This sun does seem to be hitting people particularly hard. I wouldn’t’ve thought it possible so early in April… if I can get anything to help, well, just say the word.’
I want you to kiss me back
‘That won’t be necessary.’
