Title: Unnecessary Rating: PG Length: 100 Competitor: Buri Round/Fight: 1/E Summary: Neal doesn’t quite understand.
“Kel, I’ve been thinking.” Kel sighed good-naturedly. “Not again, Neal.” “I’m serious,” he told her. “I know you’re the Commander and everything, but as New Hope’s chief healer, I think you should get a pregnancy charm. I’ve noticed you don’t wear one.” Kel was amused to see a flush creeping up his face. “I don’t need one, Neal.” “But how do you know you’re not going to get caught up in the heat of the moment with somebody?” “Neal, Buri and I discussed this once.” He looked slightly relieved. “Neither of us think that she’s going to get me pregnant.”

*flails*
I almost feel sorry for Neal... but really, people should learn not to make these assumptions.

Yeah, although I think Neal would react pretty well to finding out about Kel/Buri, especially considering that same sex couples aren't really accepted in Tortall. I guess that's also why the possibility of Kel being with a woman wouldn't readily occur to him too. Although I think it's him that she says something about it to once, that it's quite widely accepted in the Yamani Islands? Although Neal's probably less likely to remember that than we are.

Yeah, you're remembering that right. It was after the giant, stable-destroying brawl. And I think Neal would remember the conversation. But he wouldn't necessarily make the leap from Kel thinking it's fine for people to be gay, to Kel being gay especially since she's actually not. I do think he'd be pretty accepting once she told him, though.
Ok, WTF, this is turning into another fic I have to go write. My brain does not have an off switch!
