King Jonathan smiled across the desk at Kel. “You come on very high recommendation, Lady Knight Keladry.” He checked the page in front of him. “Lady Alanna was particularly complimentary about your varied talents. She told me I was a fool if I didn’t give you a try.”
Oh Gods, Kel thought to herself. What has Alanna told him? She’d specifically told her that the King was the last person she wanted to know!
“Lord Raoul, too, believes you have a number of talents the Crown would find useful. He said you spent most of your four years as a squire under him, and he tutored you in a number of things. Lord Wyldon said he found you to be better than any of your year mates.” He folded his hands in front of him. “Keladry, this might come as a shock – but I’d like to ask you to become the new Commander of the Kings Own.”
“Thank you, Sire.” Kel managed to choke out.
