“Who was Lady Delia?”
The King’s Champion, glad as she was to have escaped an evening at the palace to chase after reported trouble in the Royal Forest with her younger compatriot and friend, choked.
“Besides Lerant’s aunt and a threat to the realm, of course,” Kel added, shrugging as her gelding huffed equine amusement. “My Lord Raoul was terribly reflective one evening on the road—said she was someone everyone but he danced with. That means you danced—“
“She’s your Lerant’s aunty and a trouble to the realm. An overdressed, slinking trouble.”
“Slinking?”
“All the green she wore, satins and silks? She slinked. Into Jon’s bed, and a dead man’s. Got Gary into a duel we never saw the end of. Yes, I danced with her. Had to. Disguise.”
“I sat out of the boy’s dancing lessons.”
“Don’t rub it in, Mindelan.”
“My Lord Wyldon had me wear extra weights and tilt till I was...well...tilted. I don’t think it’s a reprieve.”
“Get yourself some teasing wench snuggling up to you and pressing for things you don’t have—then report back to me on that one.”
“Oh.”
“Yes.”
“So, not much fun at all.”
