Prince Roald stalked into the room angrily. His younger brother Jasson was waiting for him, seated on a lounge.
Roald glanced at the younger man, distracted. “What do you want? If it’s money for a girl, or for some stupid bet you’ve lost, I do not have the time or the patience today. ” He rustled through his desk, looking for a paper.
Jasson rolled his eyes. “Yes, I realise you’re ever so busy brother.” He drawled. “I’m here about Vania.”
Roald looked over from where he was bent over, suspicious. “Vania?”
“Yes.” Jasson confirmed. “She told me you caught her and the Lady Knight in a rather compromising position last night.” Roald flushed red at the memory, as Jasson continued. “I’m here on her behalf, to beg you to not to tell Father.”
Roald looked incredulous. “She sent you to do her dirty work? I thought for sure she’d be here by now, all manner of threats and bribes at her disposal.”
Jasson chose not to reply.
Roald pulled a piece of paper out of a pile, and sat down at his desk. “You needn’t waste your time. Our sister is out of control. This... liaison is the final straw. I’m speaking to Father about her this evening.” He refused to meet Jasson’s gaze.
“Oh, I don’t mind.” Jasson replied smoothly. “Tell him if you want.”
This caught Roald’s attention; he looked up. “You don’t mind?” he repeated.
“Of course not.” Jasson watched his brother intently. “Tell Father. Have Keladry sent up north. Have Vania heartbroken. The Gods know, I wouldn’t mind a break from being the Conte with all the drama and troubles!”
“Fine.” Roald stated. “I shall.” He looked uneasy – nothing was ever simple with Jasson. He poured himself a glass of juice from the pitcher on his desk and took a sip of the juice.
“You do that, then.” Jasson’s mouth crept into a small smile. “You do that, and I will make you regret it.”
Roald choked on his juice. “What?”
“Roald.” Jasson was smug. “We both know the real reason you’re so keen to put a stop to Vania’s affair.”
“It’s disgraceful.” Roald replied hotly. “It’s improper! It’s- Its-”
“Vania has had affairs before,” cut in Jasson. “And you’ve never once decided to go to Father over them.”
“Then I should have.” Retorted Roald angrily. “If only to have prevented this!”
“Perhaps.” Jasson replied agreeably. “Though, Vania never went after someone you wanted before, did she?”
A slight colour rose in Roald’s cheeks. “I have no idea what you mean.”
“Don’t be daft, Roald.” Jasson chided. “You’ve been drooling over Keladry since day one.” He smirked. “You know it, I know it, and if you tell on Vania, Shinkokami will know it too.”
