Title: Winner takes all.
Rating: Pg
Length: 430 words
Competitor: Wyldon
Round/Fight: 1/A
Summary: Dom loved Kel, but all he did was watch. Wyldon loved Kel, but he had sense enough to act. And Kel has news!
Dom loved Kel. It seemed simple to him, loving her. The way her eyes gleamed when she did her sword practices with her loving husband. The way she laughed, not an elegant laugh but a real one, when her beloved teased Neal. Dom loved the way Kel ate when proper noble women only nibbled, because she was a real woman and she worked curst hard. He loved her telling everyone at her table, be it him, her husband, Neal, Merric, Owen, the Cavall girls, to eat their vegetables.
He loved the gentle tones she used when speaking to those she loved. He loved her, everything about her. He loved Kel, yes. But so did Wyldon.
So Dom just watched as the Lord and Lady of Cavall joked with each other. He loved Kel, and so did Wyldon. And Wyldon, Wyldon had won.
No one could see how, just under the table, Wyldon held Keladry’s hand. His thumb traced the scars there lightly, making her squeeze his hand in return. These past seven months married to Keladry had been the happiest of his life. And she had given him news today that had made him happier still. “Time, Keladry.”
“Of course.” He and Keladry stood, and people could see their link hands now but that was a good thing.
“I would like to thank you all for coming,” His wife began. Her Yamani mask, as she called it, was barely in place so much was her excitement. Her friends had already been in the area when she had found out the news, it was her turn to host the dinner that they all tried to get to once a month. “I… We have something very important to tell you.”
Kel glanced at Wyldon and he smiled a bit at her. That seemed to be all the reassuring she needed, because she looked back at the group and blurted out “I’m having a baby!”
The reactions were mixed. Yukimi covered Nealan’s mouth before he could speak and said “Congratulations!”
Owen, who hadn’t been paying attention until Margarry squealed, fell out of his chair.
Goldenlake broke his fork, and his wife blinked like an owl.
Keladry cheerfully answered every question, politely accepted every congratulation, and laughed every time a name was suggested. Wyldon looked at the one man who did not seem pleased by the news. Domitan of Masbolle stared at Wyldon, trying not to glare for Keladry’s sake. And when he knew she wouldn’t see, he left the room.
Wyldon smiled. ‘That’s right Domitan. Now kindly leave my wife alone. I won.’
