Title: Consumption Rating: PG Length: 244 Competitor: Wyldon Round/Fight: 1/A Summary: he reflects on the nature of his love
His father told him that love was a duty to fulfill – that it manifested itself in the form of protection. And Wyldon listened to the wise Lord of Cavall, and grew up to marry a woman he could love. It was about having children, and keeping a peaceful home, and being an example to the villagers who lived in Cavall. And when his daughters were born, he dedicated his life to keeping the safe and happy until it was time for them to find their lives in other fiefs.
Love was comfort. It was not the burning passion of the poets and troubadours. It was not about agony or bliss. It was steadfast. It was strength. It was something he could believe in and defend.
But when Keladry looked at him with passion and lust in her dreamer’s eyes, he wondered if he’d been missing something all along. He grew to want her. He grew to care about her. He grew to love her. And then he discovered a new world.
Fervor. Zeal. A torrent of emotion he’d never experienced in all his life took over every time she was in his arms, under him, on top of him. There were so many more facets of love than what he grew up to expect. And now, at such a later stage in life, he realized what he had been missing.
And it consumed him. Every moment with her seemed to burn him inside out.

I love the idea of this. It totally fits that he'd think of love as a duty.

Thanks. I think he tries to approach things rationally, even love.

Oh, god, that last line is just perfect. I love that this is equal parts angst and a kind of hope, that he found love but too late. Once again, amazing writing
