Title: Lancelot!
Rating: R, for the last sentence.
Length: 430 words
Competitor: Wyldon
Round/Fight: 1/A
Summary: Because with parents like Kel and Wyldon, lance splinters are in your bloodstream!
Note: There will be more with Lancelot. I like him already.
Neal honestly had no idea how he had gotten roped into watching Kel and Stump’s son. The two of them saw him as they were half running out the door to Cavall’s keep and Kel had tossed Lancelot into his arms saying “Watch him please Neal. We just need a minute!”
And so there he was, watching a lad so energetic he half wondered if Kel had strayed a bit to Owen (But knowing all the same that she hadn’t, she loved the Stump.)
He chased the boy away from one of those ridiculous decorative vases full of metal flowers that Kel liked, only to have to boy run too far and out of his sight. “Lancelot, where are you?”
Of course, what was the worst that could happen? His mind answered it’s own question: He could run into Dom.
Dom had never gotten over losing Kel to the Stump. Neal didn’t think his cousin would hurt the boy, but he might frighten him a little. Or he might give him sugar, whispered his internal voices. Sugar, to make him more like his hellion brother-in-law…..
Neal took off running, looking for the little boy.
It took him an hour to find his best friend’s son (And what had happened to ‘just a few minutes!’) And when he did find him, it wasn’t a comforting sight. Lancelot and three of his nephews around the same age had found his parents’ lances. Lancelot and one of the other boys had helmets on and shields tied to their chests. The other two boys stood behind them and all four at them ran at each other with the lances out.
“For Cavall and honor!” Shouted Lancelot.
“For Jesslaw and sweets!” Shouted Owen’s son.
“For the love of the Gods!” Shouted Kel. She and Stump ran to their son and grandsons, who had stopped just in time. “Neal why did you let them do this?”
“I didn’t Kel I swear! I lost Lancelot and when I found him again it was just now!” Neal cowered under Stump’s fierce glare. The older man grabbed his son from Kel and ushered his grandchildren inside.
“He’s going to kill you, you know that right?”
“I know. Why were the two of you in such a rush anyway?”
“A farmer wanted to speak to us. And Wyldon wanted to check the quality of some of his goods.”
Neal smiled and pulled a piece of straw out of Kel’s hair. “The quality of haystacks gone down lately?”
Kel followed her husband inside. “Haystacks are rare for us. Wyldon prefers bathtubs.”
