Title: Rather Remarkable Rating: G Length: 225 Competitor: Wyldon Round/Fight: 1/A Summary: Kel finds Wyldon outside the stables at New Hope, staring at the sky.
“Have you ever seen them before, my lord?” Kel inquired.
“I’ve seen many things in my time, but never these. I suppose I’ve never been this far north.”
“My father says that he saw them once before, when he was a small boy.”
Their eyes followed the ribbons of green and purple waving across the winter sky. It seemed strange to Kel that the lights, obviously caused by a powerful something, were so silent.
Lord Wyldon leaned back against the fence post and crossed his arms. “The Scanrans believe that their fallen warriors ride into battle through the skies at night. The colors are cause by light flashing off their armor and weapons.”
She looked at him and smiled. “I had no idea you were such a poet, my lord.”
With a snort, he tipped his head back to allow the lights to fill his eyes. “I am not. I’m merely stating a fact. They’re pretty lights, nothing more.”
“I probably should have known better than comment,” Kel laughed. “Men rarely appreciate pretty things as much as women do.”
“I never said I don’t appreciate pretty things. My preference is merely that they have something else to recommend them. Take these lights." He gestured toward the sky. "I suppose they are remarkable, in a way. And remarkable things, I do appreciate.”
He smiled at her.
