“Ah.”
“Dom, must everything you do sound like a girl?”
“How would you like it if I did that to you? Hmmm?”
“I’m allowed to sound like a girl, Dom. It’s part of the job. Lady knight, and all that.”
“There’s nothing lady-like about you.”
The voices behind the door dropped into soft murmurs, and Ellie and Fia looked at each other in disgust.
“You don’t think they’re, you know?”
“No! Do you?” Giggling, most recognisable to both squires as that of the Lady Knight’s, was heard.
“Ew. No.”
“So what do we do now? I’m not waiting.”
“But milord said to get Lady Kel.”
“Fia, you can go get Lady Kel. You might get more of Sergeant Dom then you want though.”
“There’s nothing wrong with Sergeant Dom, Ellie. I mean, he’s old. And she’s your knight master.”
“And it was your knightmaster that wanted her in the first place.”
“Fia? Ellie?” Both girls turned, and, fingers to lips hissed ssh at him.
“What are you doing?”
“Ellie’s too chicken to get Lady Kel ‘cause we heard her and Sergeant Dom in there. And milord wants us to get her.”
“So we should go get Sir Neal then, and tell him to go get Lady Kel?”
“No. Sir Neal would then drag Sergeant Dom to the practice courts and then his armour would get all dirty and it’s a waste of time for me to clean it again.”
“Well, Ellie, when you pluck up the courage, can you tell milady that Sir Raoul wishes to speak with her, and if Lady Kel happens to see Sergeant Domitan, that his squad needs to muck out both the Own and teh Riders stables in response to the prank they pulled earlier.”
“Bye Alan.” Both girls hissed.
“1, 2, 3.” Ellie grabbed the door, and pulled it open. Dom stood with his back to them, and Kel was in front of him, leaning against her desk.
“Lady Kel?” Both turned around, Dom pulling his shirt back on, and Fia and Ellie exchanged embarrassed looks. Dom spotted this.
“Kel was just stitching my cut for me. I didn’t want to trouble the healers, and she thought it was worse than it was.” Fia and Ellie ignored the quick flush on both of their cheeks.
“Of course, sir. My lady, Lord Raoul would like to see you as soon as possible, and Sergeant, he wishes your squad to muck out the stables in recompense for their prank yesterday.”
“Tell Lord Raoul I’ll be at his office by the next bell, and Dom’s squad will be cleaning by then.”
“Yes milady.”
The sisters curtsied, and left, leaving an air of relief behind.
“That will teach you, won’t it Dom.”
He smirked in reply, and they both cracked up laughing.
“You don’t think they thought.”
“Nah.”
-
“Oh, and Kel. Alan had the most interesting story. According to your and Neal’s squire, you and Dom were doing most improper things in your study.”
“Sir, we weren’t doing”
“I didn’t say you were. Guilty conscience?”
