Title: Lies
Rating: G
Length: 247
Competitor: Dom
Round/Fight: 1/A
Summary: Kel loses Dom’s baby
Taking a breath, Neal walks through the wooden door. Dom waits on the other side, wrought with guilt and anxiety. He almost runs to Neal, looking for guidance, looking for information, looking for reassurance.
Neal shakes his head sadly. “I’m so sorry, Dom. She lost the baby.”
Dom crumples before him, sitting back down on the seat and holding his head in his hands. “And Kel?” he asks without looking up.
“Kel will be fine,” Neal replies, patting Dom’s shoulder. “There won’t be any long-term damage, but she’ll be weak for about a month.” Hesitantly, he added, “I’d wait until Midsummer before you try again.”
Dom’s shoulders slump further. “We- we fought yesterday.” he says, heavy with remorse. “Could that have-”
“No,” Neal replies. “This wasn’t your fault, Dom. Sometimes, these things just happen, without any warning or explanation. There’s nothing you could have done.” He pauses, before adding, “Kel’s asked that you wait until tomorrow to visit. She needs some time on her own. To- grieve, and such.”
Dom nods, not really hearing him. Neal leaves him sitting there, and heads back to Kel’s room.
Kel watches him return. She fiddles with her blanket, but the look of relief on her face is plain.
“I told him.” Says Neal coolly. “It broke his heart. He really wants children – he’d give up anything for a family.”
“I know,” Kel replies, and looks away.
Neal watches her for a moment. “Will you ever tell him it was deliberate?
