Title: Missed Chances
Rating: G
Length: 292
Competitor: Dom
Round/Fight: 1/A
Summary: Dom realises he has missed his chance for good.
He watched Kel navigate her way through the crowd. She was wearing a simple russet coloured ball gown; he strained to remember when he’d ever seen her look so lovely. She slipped through the throng of bodies, all clad in bright silks and chiffons. The court was celebrating the end of the war and welcoming back their veterans. Dom knew Kel was celebrating too; but her reason was an entirely different one.
He watched her stop beside a tall man with tanned skin that hinted of Bazhir ancestry. Dom watched as Seaver turned to see Kel. He spoke words Dom couldn’t hear, as he took her hand and tucked it into his. A shy smile spread across her face as they turned back to the nobles Seaver was standing with. Dom would have wagered that he was introducing her to whomever he was standing with. Introducing her as his betrothed.
The idea pulled at Dom’s heart. By the time he worked up the courage to tell Kel how he really felt, she’d already been involved with Seaver. He’d missed the boat, and lost the girl of his dreams.
Dom downed the last of his wine in a quick gulp, and set the glass down firmly. Kel wasn’t interested in him; it was time for him to move on.
He looked around for a distraction; a pretty blonde in pale pink caught his eye. Accepting a drink from a squire, he winked at her, and made his way over to introduce himself.
Kel snuck a glance across the room. She could see Dom, flirting with an attractive blonde. She shook away her niggling disappointment. She adored Seaver, of course; otherwise she never would have agreed to marry him.
But... he’d never be Dom.
