Title: Uncomfortable (Jealous, Really)
Rating: PG
Length: 313 words
Competitor: Wyldon
Round/Fight: 1/A
Summary: Kel understands her feelings a bit better when set in the proper light.
Her chest constricted when it happened: she had been at Fort Mastiff with Lord Wyldon, discussing her newest orders (now that she was pulled out of New Hope). She had grown to love these moments with her district commander, discussing battle plans and the enemy’s movements in the dwindling war. Perhaps she enjoyed them too much, she was realizing. She felt warm with every encouraging word and soft expression. But when one of the soldiers called out Lord Wyldon’s name, and he turned to look at the new supply wagons below, his face lit up with an expression she’d never seen before. (And she realized in a heartbeat that it was the kind of look she’d always wanted to see aimed at her.)
She followed his eyes to a woman who stood next to the wagons with three large hounds. She guessed, in that moment, that this was Lady Vivenne of Cavall. (She was a lovely woman, no less.)
Her guess was confirmed when he quickly excused himself and jogged over to their guest. There was no bear hug, no kiss to sweep her off her feet (like Kel would’ve expected from Raoul or Neal, had their wives come to their forts). Instead it was a low, intimate conversation – likely asking and explaining why she was here.
He took her by the hand (Kel tried to remember if she’d ever seen him touch a woman’s hand this way) and led her into the building where his office was. And his bed, at that.
She flushed as she watched them walk. Even with her little crush on him (nothing compared to what she’d felt for others in the past, she tried to justify), she had never thought of his bedroom life.
And now, seeing him touching his wife and leading her away to his quarters, Kel fretted. (Perhaps a bit too much, at that.)
