Title: Terror
Rating: PG
Length: 271 words
Competitor: Wyldon
Round/Fight: A/1
Summary: The most frightening moment of Wyldon's life keeps repeating itself.
Wyldon still remembered the first time like it was yesterday. The fears, the overactive imaginings, the countless hours on his knees praying to the Mother that Vivienne and the baby make it through the labor healthily.
After four girls and three stillbirths, Vivienne never removed her anti pregnancy charm. He no longer had to worry.
Until his daughter told him she was having a baby. He acted happy for her, hid his fear, but as soon as she had left he was on his knees praying for his daughter and his unborn grandchild. The Mother didn’t fail him, she and the baby were healthy.
His daughters’ children were rather far between because they had all married knights. That was fine with him, it was much less dangerous to not be pregnant.
When Keladry told him she was expecting, he was thrilled. Until she fell asleep and he remembered every reason that had terrified him with Vivienne and the girls. He was on his knees again in no time.
Waiting outside the birthing room, praying to the Mother for his wife and child, Wyldon was certain it was going to end badly. Some part of him had managed to convince the other parts of him that Vivienne’s stillborns were from a problem with him, that they weren’t from her delicacy.
Queenscove had to threaten to put him to sleep to prevent a heart attack, he was so frightened for Kel and the baby.
It wasn’t until he heard a healthy, wailing baby and Keladry’s exhausted “Oh Goddess be praised, it’s over!” that he remembered all the reasons he loved being a father.
