Title: Our Mutual Friend Rating: G Length: 168 words Competitor: Wyldon Round/Fight: 1/A Summary: Owen and Kel have a chat about someone they know all too well.
“Owen, we have to talk.” They had been riding through the Royal Forest for hours, and she had intended to tell him her news. But she hadn’t found the right moment. “About Lord Wyldon.” “Is something wrong, Kel?”
“I – I agreed to marry him,” she said in a rush. “He asked me this past weekend, and I said yes.”
He frowned slightly. “You’ll be my mother-in-law.”
“I know,” she replied with a grimace.
“And a grandmother.”
“Yes.”
“You’re not even thirty yet, Kel.”
“These things have crossed my mind, Owen.”
“Neal will kill you!”
She smiled. “Yes, he won’t understand.”
“But I do.” Owen grinned, looking like the ten-year-old boy he was when they first met. “He’s the one person I respect as much as you, you know.”
She laughed. “You’ve mentioned it before.”
“I wanted this to happen,” he admitted. “I think you’re perfect for each other, in some ways.” He pondered the situation for another moment. “But I’m not calling you ‘Mother’. Well, except in jest.”
