A gust of wind blew her hair into her eyes. A flash of light caught her attention to the right. Lifting her sword higher, Kel followed.
Something heavy thudded down behind her. Spinning around, Kel squinted into to the darkness. Cursing the shadows and fog, she slowly crept forward, her sword preceding her.
The softest of touches brushed against her shoulder. Jumping and spinning at the same time, she swung her sword and heard a light snick. A thin length of blond hair, braided with bones, landed at her feet.
“Come out here you coward.” Kel picked up the braid, surprised how smooth and soft it felt. “You told me to come find you. Now I have. Why are you still hiding?” Crouching down, she looked left and right, chasing glimmers of steel in the shadows.
“Tsk,tsk tsk, aren’t we feeling particularly rude today.” Bold green eyes stared mockingly back at her from the tree line – out of reach of her sword. “You don’t see me chopping off any of your hair.” Something dark and metallic rose, and then settled, behind his head. “And here I thought noble knights were supposed to have manners, my dear Keladry of Mindelan.”
“Safety comes before manners.” Kel replied curtly, and advanced.
“I mean you no harm Keladry.” A bare chest emerged - unveiled by the mists. “I need you.”
“Then tell me who you are. What you are.”
“I told you. I am Rikash. And you already know what I am.” He finally stepped forward out of the fog, sharp steal wings unfolding from the shadows.
Kel gasped in shock and horror – and landed with a thud beside her bed. Getting back on the bed, she told herself to forget about the strange Stormwing – it was just a dream. She reached for a drink of water, and froze – hands trembling in fright. The thin blond braid was still clenched tightly in her hand.
