Title: In the Middle of Nowhere Rating: G Length: 257 Competitor: Faleron Round/Fight: 1/B Summary: A visit from the supply wagon is always welcome at New Hope.
Kel reined in Hoshi and took her spyglass from her pocket. The road to New Hope was still hung with a light morning mist, but the supply wagon was just visible through it. She searched the wagon and horses, unconsciously biting her lip. Yes. Her face lighting up with a smile, she turned Hoshi with her knees and urged her back toward New Hope’s walls.
She met Neal as he was coming out of the infirmary, wiping his hands on a dirty cloth. “Neal,” she smiled. “The supply wagon’s here.”
“Is it? That’s a bit early, I thought it wasn’t due until next week,” he remarked, falling in to step beside her. She had to make herself walk slowly, though her feet felt like skipping. Hastily, she finger-combed her windswept hair into some kind of order. Neal eyed her warily.
“Excited, are we? I hope it’s not contagious,” he said dryly.
Kel hit him on the arm, making him scowl. “Stop it. Go find Merric or someone, make sure there’s room in the stables.”
“Fine,” he said, rubbing his arm. “But you’re acting weird. All over a bloody supply wagon.” He left to find Merric, or at least, to go annoy someone else. Kel was glad of it; she didn’t want him around to see her face light up when a tall, young knight rode through the gate on the end of the wagon party, or how she almost squealed when he jumped off his horse to lift her up and kiss her in front of everyone.
