Lady Vivenne intimidated Kel.
She wasn't the most intimidating woman Kel had ever encountered - that honour went to Duke Gareth's imperious wife, Roanna. But Kel had never been entirely comfortable with court ladies, with few exceptions, and Vivenne took pleasure in cornering her prey.
"May I help you, my lady?" she asked awkwardly, aware that she probably wasn't helping her cause by looking shifty, and surreptitiously trying to wipe her sweaty palms on her tunic.
Lady Vivenne's eyes were cold, and, oh, this could only mean one thing.
"Lady Knight, do not imagine me ignorant of your current pastimes." She held up a hand, dismissing Kel's response before the knight had been able to properly formulate one. "Allow me to give you fair warning, though. I am not, and have never been inclined to be the sharing kind."
