It was a constant ache, a dull twinge that she didn’t notice at first. But then it spread throughout her body like a disease until it began to rot her from the inside out.
It started when his smile made her smile in return and her greatest triumph was when she made him laugh. It continued when the touch of his hand set her flesh on fire and she noticed the flex of his thick muscles when he moved; she admired his catlike grace and his charm; the way he smiled at his wife made her burn with jealousy and made her belly heave.
It ended with a kiss she initiated, and he pushed her harshly away with reproving eyes and a expression that clearly showed he had no desire for her.
It was the first time she knew the pain of rejection, but it would not be the last.
