He eyes her shrewdly. “Back to his bed, I take it?”
She can feel herself flush. “It’s not simple.”
“It never is.”
“I think he loves me, in his way,” she says, donning her breeches.
“He’s still with his wife.”
She pauses to gaze at him levelly. “As are you.”
“My wife would be showing you how comparably poor my technique is, were she here to make you sigh and wriggle in pleasure.”
“You say that, but you can’t prove it.”
“Stay with me again tonight. She’ll be back in Corus.”
“I can’t.”
“Because his wife is leaving the city.”
She says nothing.
“Kel, you can’t keep this up. It’s going to eat at you from the inside.”
“And being with you won’t do the same?”
He says nothing.
