“What is going on?”
Keladry nearly leapt out of her skin as she practically fell out of bed in her desperation to get away from her rather intimate embrace with Raoul.
“Your Majesty,” she choked.
She pulled the covers up to hide her bare breasts, but couldn’t cover the bright pink flush that had taken over her face. Of all the people, she thought in distress, it had to be the queen.
Thayet was white-lipped with shock, and her gaze snapped to Raoul, who was arranging the covers politely around his lap.
“It’s not what you think,” he began nervously.
“Not what we think?” another voice said loudly. “Then please, enlighten us.”
To Kel’s utmost horror, Alanna slipped into Raoul’s room behind Thayet, her violet eyes coldly appraising the scene.
“Keladry, I’m surprised by you,” she said flatly, and Kel almost died with shame. “I thought you had more dignity and self-respect than to dally with a married man, and a stupid one at that. You’re a poor example to girls everywhere, and—”
Luckily, Kel was saved from further embarrassment (not that she really believed she could possibly be anymore humiliated) when the privy door slammed open.
“Why are you yelling?”
Thayet and Alanna gaped at Buriram, who leaned against the doorframe quite unabashedly naked.
“Buri,” the queen sputtered, “do you know about this?”
“Know about it,” Buri snorted. “I’m part of it.”
