Raoul sat rigid on the bench closest to the large iron doors. Buri had grasped his hands in hers the moment the doors had closed behind Kel, a decision her hands were now regretting—or at least they would, if they could still feel anything.
She studied his face, seeing the unguarded fear that painted his face. Buri expected most knight-masters looked like Raoul did now when they sent their squires to face the Chamber.
Remembering a conversation from just a few years past, she suspected his fears were due to more than just Kel’s successful knighthood.
She leaned her head against what she could reach of his shoulder; Buri knew he loved her.
