Intruder PG 242 Joren 1/E Keladry stumbles across a scene of sorts. ______________________________________
He is the most beautiful boy she has ever met, and this is why it has never occurred to her that he might be plagued by shadows like any other person. Has never expected that people so lovely looking with the luck of an entire world and way of life at their disposal could have been damaged. But one night when she is twelve years old and is returning a book to the library – after hours. She’d forgotten, caught up in her excitement of the coming summer expedition – she hears something and turns down one aisle and into another. And turns to stone. There is Joren, crying, shaking, gasping for air from the strength of his sobs, and there is Zahir, his arms around the blonde page, looking at Keladry, his eyes filled with shock at her intrusion into a grief she cannot comprehend, much less understand. She doesn’t know how long she stays there – it feels like an age, feels like her feet have suddenly grown roots into the stone floor like some awful nightmare, but with a ferocious glare Zahir is mouthing at her leave and as if that is the key to the spell that had held her, she does, tip toeing out of the darkened room and into the darkened corridor, running back to her room, her heart hammering, the image of the two pages tattooed across her mind. She never looks at Joren the same way again.
