Title:Veering Rating: PG Length: 236 Competitor: Baird Round: 1/D Summary: Rebuke and response A dashed off-scrawl, rain soaked, impressions of the pencil work resting lightly against the tips of his fingers as he held it in his hands. Bard,
You had me all trembly and excited over pencils and disemboweling, and then you lost me at epistolarity. Or was it gallstones? (I know what those are, at least, and am appropriately green.) You are your son’s father. Honestly. You do know how to lead a woman on.
Kel.
P.S. Quarterstaffs, Not Staves. Rueful laughter by candle light. A hand over tired eyes in a room silent save for him. Keladry, I suppose I deserve that—my late wife always had the grace to stop listening when the medicinal humour teamed up with my vocabulary to get the better of me. Still, there is not much to do here except tease you—which, in many respects, I am of course profoundly grateful for. The realm is well, my children are far from me (for which I am not exactly grateful, you understand, but there is such a thing as peace) and no Page has managed to fall down any sort of edifice or larger human for at least a fortnight. Your former squire was in the other day, passing on his mother’s regards and considering, “visiting you and your worshipers.” I duly pass this on, though I hope Alan has made his own correspondence with you.
The very best, B.

Love these letters! Such lovely interaction despite the distance.

Oh, I think my favorite part is his laughter, and the hand over tired eyes. You've caught something so essentially Baird in his fatigue and humor.

I love Kel's letter! ...trembly and excited over pencils and disemboweling... It's almost something she'd write without intending to send this version, but then she did. Very promising.
