Baird watches her as she works. There is lightness in her step, and a joy in her eyes that he hasn’t seen since Haven fell. He knows that her stress and pain had eased with his ministrations, but not so dramatically as now. No, her trip to Mastiff had done wonders, but he couldn’t fathom why.
As Kel spots Lord Wyldon’s party approach New Hope for an inspection, Baird sees the small smile that appears on her face. There is nothing else, but something tells him that there is a change, and he begins to wonder if something more had happened while she was away.
